El Mo's Emily Dean (10) drove to the basket in a clash in a tourney game against Maria Carrillo in the REIBT last weekend. Dean was named to the All-Tournament team.

The El Molino Lady Lions notched their second win of the campaign last weekend at the annual Redwood Empire Invitational Basketball Tournament hosted by Healdsburg, a good litmus test against other like-sized schools.
The eight-team girls tournament included Healdsburg, Maria Carrillo, Clear Lake, Fortuna, El Molino, Willits, John Swett, and Leadership.
The Lions went 1-2 in the tourney, opening the action with an exciting 33-32 win over John Swett, followed by subsequent losses to Healdsburg (63-23), and Maria Carrillo (53-10).
Senior guard Emily Dean was named to the REIBT All-Tournament team.
The Lions (2-6) will continue preseason action on Dec. 16 (after press time) at Maria Carrillo, followed by a home clash with Willits on Friday, Dec. 18 (7 p.m.). El Mo will visit Novato this Saturday, Dec. 19 in a 1 p.m. tip-off.
Lions pull out a thriller
The Dec. 10 meeting with John Swett was worth the price of admission, as the teams battled on even terms in a close first half. Knotted at 18-all at the half,
Swett ripped off a 12-2 run in the third quarter to open up a 10-point lead.  El Mo didn’t flinch, using a great defensive effort to whittle away at the deficit. The Lions trailed by two points with five seconds left when Emily Dean nailed a three-point bomb to lift her team to a 33-32 victory.
Emily Dean finished up with a team-high 10 points, while sister Madison Dean chipped in eight points for the Lions.
The euphoria was short-lived for El Mo, which came out on the short end of a 63-23 score in the REIBT semifinal game the following night against Healdsburg.  Top scorers included Emily Dean (7), freshmen Chloe Kliegi (5) and junior Kristine Daniels (5).
The Lions were never in the game in the REIBT getaway game on Saturday against Maria Carrillo, spotting the Pumas a 29-3 cushion at the half. The carnage continued after intermission as Carrillo powered to a 53-10 win. Although no official scoring was reported, leading scorers were Emily Dean and freshmen Grace Anderson.
