On June 16, Mothers Against Drunk Driving held its regional Law
Enforcement Recognition luncheon in Napa for Sonoma, Napa, Marin
and Solano counties.
Agencies from those counties were able to honor any of their
officers who made 25 or more DUI arrests. Agencies that didn’t have
any employees who made 25 arrests were able to honor two officers
who made the highest number of arrests for their agency.
Sebastopol Police Officers Nick Belliveau and Jacques Levesque
were honored for their 32 and 26 DUI arrests in 2009
respectively.
Sebastopol Police Officer David Harston was given a special
“Century Award” for having made more than 100 DUI arrests in 2009.
In fact, he made 155 DUI arrests, the highest number in all of
Sonoma County and the second highest in the four-county region,
behind Officer Richard Mroz from the Fairfield Police Department,
who had 180 DUI arrests. The second highest number of DUI arrests
in Sonoma County for 2009 were 90, made by CHP Officer David
Gordon.
The director of the California Office of Traffic Safety, Chris
Murphy, was present at the luncheon, as was Lydia Ruiz who spoke
about the death of her son as a result of a DUI driver.
