Cloverdale Little League teams opened District-35 tournament action last week with a flurry of games, with the 9-10 year-olds and 11-12 squad battling to keep their seasons alive.
The CLL 9/10 squad kicked off All-Star play with a 16-2 romp over Willits on July 1, but fell to host Healdsburg the following day, 14-2. Facing elimination, Cloverdale was bounced from the tournament on July 5 in a 25-0 shutout loss to Petaluma Valley.
The 9/10 All-stars were led by manager Phil Ammirati and coaches Justin Cavallo, and Ian Jones. Players included Audie Hanes, Ayal Fichtelberg, Caden Axell, Casey Lemley, Diesel Cavallo, Dominic Vellutini, Dylan Jones, Emilio Diaz, Jeadon Toninato, Kolby Jenkins, Madison Ammirati, Travis Wedge, and James
Pope.
The Majors 11/12 team opened its District-35 All-Star tourney with a 6-2 win over Willits on July 2, but dropped an exciting, 18-10 decision to host Ukiah the following night. On Sunday, Cloverdale bounced back to notch a 9-3 win over Healdsburg.
At press time the local stars were preparing for a July 6 meeting with Fort Bragg, with the survivor advancing to play Sebastopol on July 7 in Ukiah (5:30 p.m.).
