The winter sports season has arrived, but Cloverdale High School’s fall sports stars received one last shout-out recently with the release of the All-North Central League I teams, which are determined by a vote of the league’s coaches.
While many of the Eagles’ fall sports teams were in full-on rebuild mode in 2016, a handful of Cloverdale’s top players in volleyball, girls soccer and boys soccer caught the eye of enough of the league’s coaches to warrant inclusion on the All-League teams.
That was certainly the case for Tehya Bird in volleyball, as the freshman outside hitter was accorded first-team honors, a rarity for a ninth-grader on the All-NCL I team.
Along with Bird, Cloverdale’s other All-League selection was junior defensive specialist Hannah Bereschi, an honorable mention.
The Eagles volleyball team returns their entire roster in 2017.
In girls soccer, Cloverdale struggled to a 1-12-1 league record but still landed three players on the All-League team, including first-team selection Vanessa Ramirez, a senior. Also making it from the Eagles was second-team pick Samantha Rodriguez, a senior and Julissa Pulido, a senior honorable mention.
In boys soccer, junior defender Marcos Jimenez, one of two team captains for the Eagles, was named to the All-League first team. Teammates Danny Valencia, a junior forward, and Freddy Flores, a junior midfielder/defender, made it onto the second team. Luis Rosales, a senior team captain who played midfielder and keeper, was an honorable mention.
In football, the Eagles were shut out of the All-League voting after posting a 2-6 league mark. Willits (1-7) and St. Vincent (0-8) also were shut out.
