Julie Edwards leading the pack in Willits.

On Wednesday, Nov. 2 the Cloverdale cross-country team traveled to Willits for a challenging 2.9 mile course.
Julie Edwards (21:32) led the women’s team to another victory against St. Helena. The ladies scored 17 points to St. Helena’s 42 – an almost perfect sweep.
Frederike Tschernich (21:39) and Katie Edwards (22:29) worked together to finish second and third for the Eagles.
Grisselle Herrera (23:52), Sami Santana (24:11) ran the course at a strong pace, finishing fourth and fifth for the Eagles.
Cheyenne Palmer had an outstanding finish, placing in front of St. Helena’s remaining competitors. After the race, the ladies used their remaining energy to cheer on the men’s team.
On the men’s side, Paden Collard took out the race with Kelseyville’s Andre Williams. Collard struggled with his footing over the slick bridges, causing him to fall several times throughout the race. He (16:19) finished second overall.
Emmett Lawson (17:53) had a strong finish, placing in front of the first St. Helena runner.
Everett Conway (19:00) and Jacob Elliott (19:12) demonstrated exceptional strength on the hills. Juan Gutierrez (20:31) and Finn Addison (21:47) rounded off the scoring for the Eagles with solid efforts on the last mile.
Although the men’s team ended up second to St. Helena by 3 points, the men have their eyes on the championship race next week.
Both men and women will compete in the CMC Championship race on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Cache Creek Winery (new location) and at NCS in Hayward on Nov. 19.
