The Cloverdale Eagle Pride Boosters Club held its annual winter sports banquet at the Cloverdale Citrus Fairgrounds honoring the high school boys and girls basketball programs. The event was a huge success and gave recognition to not only a large group of athletes that like to shoot the ball around but also a group of students who took the time to excel in the classroom, the scholar-athletes. To become a scholar-athlete the student must carry a minimum 3.5 GPA or higher, a feat that takes a great deal of dedication while participating in high school athletics.
The Boosters Club also started a fun and memorable tradition for winter sports by presenting the seniors with their very own personalized name plates taken down from the roster board held in the gymnasium. Thanks to many sponsors and the commitment from the CHS administration the Boosters Club purchased a very nice players roster board that shows the name and jersey number of each player on the JV and varsity boys and girls basketball teams as well as the current coaching staff for each team. Each year during the winter sports banquet the seniors will be presented with the name plate as a thank you for their commitment and dedication to the Eagles basketball program.
During the banquet, coaches address those in attendance with an introduction of their team, inspirational or comedic stories of happenings during the season and end with a presentation of their team awards. This year’s event honored the following athletes:
JV girls basketball players: Julie Edwards, Lane Hughes, Marina Lopez, Mikayla Crosby, Mikaela Nicholls, Heather Sterling, Ella Black, Neidi Calvillo, Maci Hernandez and Morgan Sceales. Individual awards were presented by coach Mac Butler to MVP Heather Sterling, Coaches Award Julie Edwards and Most Improved Player Mikaela Nicholls.
JV boys nasketball players: Mario Lopez, Quincey Hayes, Keller Sibert, Chuche Maciel, Spencer Hoover, Shayne Turner, Tyler Ruys, Sebastian Valencia, Adrian Gutierrez, Juan Flores and Paden Collard. Varsity girls basketball players: Kayli Persons, Katie Edwards, Camryn Figueroa, Jaedyn Jenkins, Ruby Stone, Paloma Santos, Shaye Stewart and Tehya Bird.
