Cloverdale looking to challenge in Coastal Mountain Conference
The 2017 cross country season figures to be another successful one for Cloverdale High School runners, with a great mix of experience and first-year talent hungry to show whey they can do.
Veteran coach Leanne Fogg is back for another campaign, optimistic and excited for the season ahead.
“We’re very excited to start the season,” Fogg reported. “We have many returning athletes who are running in new company — about half of our team is new this year. New cross country runners include incoming freshmen, first time runners and transfer runners from other schools.”
Back to lead a talented boys team is gifted sophomore Paden Collard, one of the top runners in the league. He’ll be joined by returnee seniors Everett Conway and Joel Mendoza and sophomore Finn Addision. New to the team this year are junior transfer Tucker Morgan, freshman Tanner Wanke, senior Clayton Farris and sophomores Alex Visconti and Miguel Gonzalez.
The girls team will be led by returning junior standout Julie Edwards and returning seniors Sami Santana and Grisselle Herrera. First year athletes include junior Eden Winniford, freshman Sophia Witt, junior Cristina Cardenas and senior Gaby Ganoa.
“We’re expecting another impressive season from our top returning runners Julie Edwards and Paden Collard, both athletes put a lot of work in over the summer months to ensure another strong season,” Fogg said. “And we’re excited to see how our first time runners will contribute to our team.”
The Eagles will kick off the season at the annual Ed Sias Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 9 in Martinez.
