The Eagles are hitting their stride on the league volleyball court this month, playing some of their best ball of the season in gaining an even split in a pair of matches.
Cloverdale (4-4, 8-12) opened the stretch with a hard-fought, five-set loss at Clear Lake on Sept. 25, but bounced back two nights later with a four-game win over host Willits.
At press time the Eagles were preparing to continue a protracted road swing, beginning on Oct. 2 at St. Helena, followed by an Oct. 4 visit to Middletown. Cloverdale will return home next Tuesday when they host Lower Lake. All varsity matches start at 6 p.m.
Eagles gain split
The Sept. 25 match against arch rival Clear Lake lived up to all expectations, featuring wild momentum swings that would see the Eagles erase a two-set deficit to send it to the fifth game before eventually falling; 19-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19, 13-15.
Tehya Bird turned in a sensational match with 18 kills, 30 digs and nine service points. Other strong performances included Xenia Echols (10 kills) and Lane Hughes (22 digs, 6 kills and 11 service points).
Cloverdale was back in the win column in a Sept. 27 visit to Willits, overcoming a determined Wolverine’s squad to win in four sets; 25-18, 16-25, 25-18, 25-18.
Hughes and Bird led the way with nine and 10 kills respectively.
