The varsity basketball Eagles are coming off a busy week on the league schedule, logging two wins in three outings.
The Eagles opened the string on Jan. 14 with an 82-42 rout at Willits, but weathered a 65-60 home loss to Clear Lake two nights later. Cloverdale ended the stretch with a 61-42 win over St. Helena.
“We continue to play great team basketball, with five players scoring in double figure versus Willits, four against Clear Lake and three in double figures versus St. Helena,” Eagle’s coach Pat Fitzgerald reported. “We put together one of our best defensive efforts against St. Helena with 14 steals and six deflections in Friday’s win.”
At press time the Eagles (5-2, 11-7) were at the halfway mark in the NCL 1 season, with home and away dates scheduled with Middletown on Jan. 22 and Kelseyville on Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m.
Eagles take two
It was all Cloverdale in the Jan. 14 win at Willits, opening up a 39-22 at the break on their way to an 82-42 rout. Pacing the attack were Josh Lemley (19), Chuche Maciel (15), Shayne Turner (12), Mario Lopez (11) and Spencer Hoover (10).
The Eagles hit a bump in the road in the Jan. 16 clash with visiting Clear Lake, as the Cardinals overcame a 36-29 deficit with a big second half en route to a 65-60 Clear Lake win. Top point scorers for Cloverdale included Turner (18), Maciel (16), Lemley (14) and Lopez (10).
The Eagles shook off the loss in a big way in Friday’s home tilt with St. Helena, busting it wide open with a 23-10 second-quarter surge on their way to a 61-42 romp. Pacing the offensive attack were Maciel (15), Lopez (14), Lemley (13), Turner (7), Hoover (6), Andres Herrera (4) and Keller Sibert (2).
