Cloverdale High School varsity soccer teams are in the final stretch of league play this week, closing in on a pair of coveted North Coast Section playoff berths.
At press time the boys squad was in second place in league with a 7-2-4 record (11-5-4 overall) and preparing for the NCL1 finale against visiting Lower Lake on Oct. 23. The Eagles are a lock to land a decent seed in the NCS playoffs, which start next week.
Meanwhile the ladies (9-3-1, 10-8-2) are in third place and riding a four-game winning streak after posting recent victories over Fort Bragg (5-2) and Clear Lake (9-3).
Sophomore Grace Messenger has been sensational this season, emerging as the leading scorer with a league-high of 37 goals. The Lady Eagles will close out the regular season on Oct. 23 against Lower Lake and await a probable spot in the NCS playoffs.   Â
