The Eagles kept their unbeaten softball streak alive in an April 2 visit to Fort Bragg, turning back the host Timberwolves in a wild one, 6-5.
“We played the game under poor weather conditions but came out of it with a win,” veteran coach Margaret Fitzgerald said. “We were a little generous on defense, allowing four unearned runs.”
The ladies will open a key stretch of games beginning on April 9 against St. Helena, followed by a pair of road visits to Middletown (April 10) and Lower Lake on Friday, April 12. Cloverdale will travel to Clear Lake next Tuesday, April 16. All games start at 4 p.m.
Eagles notch “W”
Cloverdale survived a less than stellar defensive outing in the April 2 clash at Fort Bragg, watching an early 5-1 lead evaporate late in the game. The T-Wolves mounted a comeback with two runs in the fifth and another pair in the seventh but the Eagles escaped with a 6-5 win.
Pitcher Tehya Bird (7 IP, 7 hits, 1 ER, 8 Ks) was solid in notching her 10th win of the season, with Kayli King (3 for 4, 2B, run) and Vanessa Fisher (2 for 4, 2B, run, 2 RBIs) accounting for all five of Cloverdale’s hits, while Eagles’ hitters drew seven walks in the game.
The highlight of the trip may have come before the game, when the Eagles enjoyed a picturesque lunch on the beach.
