Ladies push season record to 5-0
The Cloverdale Lady Eagles remain undefeated on the 2014 season after notching a lopsided 9-1 varsity softball victory over visiting Willits on April 2.
The win came in the Eagle’s lone outing of the week in an abbreviated schedule due to recent rains, running Cloverdale’s league record to 2-0 and 5-0 overall.
At press time the ladies were preparing to start a road swing beginning with a visit to Middletown on April 8, followed by a Thursday, April 10 trip to Lower Lake. The Eagles will be back in the friendly confines when they entertain St. Helena next Tuesday, Apr. 15. All games start at 4 p.m.
Ace pitcher Teanne Edens climbed the hill for the April 2 start against Willits, putting up zeroes for the first five frames in another dominant performance.
Cloverdale busted the game open with a four-run uprising in the second inning, adding solo runs in the third and fourth for a comfortable 6-0 lead. The Eagles padded the cushion with another three insurance runs in the sixth, while Willits managed just a late un-earned run en route to a 9-1 Cloverdale victory.
Edens tossed seven innings of four-hit ball, yielding no walks and earned runs while fanning nine to notch her fifth season win. Pacing the Eagle’s offense were top hitters Edens (1 for 2, HR, run, 3 RBIs), Monica Lemley (1 for 1, run, RBI), Bailey Creager (1 for 3, 2 RBIs), Hailey Donahoo (1 for 3, RBI), Kelsi Sibert (1 for 3, run, RBI), Jasmin Orozco (1 for 2), and Celeste Gastineau (1 for 2, 2 runs).
