Lady Eagles blank St. Helena to maintain first place

Cloverdale begins home stand with 5-0 league record
The Cloverdale Lady Eagles remained undefeated in NCL-1 softball action on April 15, recording a 10-0 shutout win over St. Helena in their lone league outing of the week.
The Eagles (5-0, 8-3) found the going a bit more challenging in the Standley Cup Tournament in Hayward over the weekend, falling from the ranks of the unbeaten with losses to San Leandro (8-7), Alameda (8-7) and Pinole Valley (6-0).
Although the tourney setbacks to larger schools were nothing to be alarmed about, they should serve as a good barometer and reality check for a team with both championship and playoff aspirations.
This week the ladies will be back in the friendly confines when they host a pair of NCL-1 games, starting with an April 22 (after press time) home clash with Kelseyville.  The Eagles will entertain Fort Bragg on Thursday, April 24 before hitting the road for Willits next Tuesday, April 29. First pitch for all games is 4 p.m.
Eagles blank Saints
Sophomore hurler Teanne Edens continued her mastery of league opponents in the April 15 meeting with visiting St. Helena, firing a complete-game one-hitter, issuing just one free pass while fanning eight in a 10-0, five-inning win.
The Eagles feasted on Saints pitching, led by top hitters Jordyn Turner (2 for 4, 2B, run, 2 RBIs), Edens (2 for 3, 2 runs, RBI), Celeste Gastineau (2 for 4, 2 runs), Amy Mora (2 for 2, 2 runs, RBI, Jasmin Orozco (1 for 3, 2 runs), Monica Lemley (1 for 3), and Kelsi Sibert (1 for 3 run, RBI).
Cloverdale entered the Standley Cup Tournament knowing it would be tested, beginning with an April 17 meeting with San Leandro.  The Eagles battled back from an 8-2 deficit with five runs in the final two innings to fall 8-7.
Edens (7 IP, 8 hits, 5 ERs, 5 Ks) took her first loss of the campaign, while leading hitters were Mora (2 for 4), and Turner (2 for 3, 2 runs, RBI).
It was a different story the following day against Alameda, as Cloverdale led 6-1 after four innings before the Hornets fought back with seven runs in the last two frames to pull out an 8-7 win.
Edens (6 IP, 11 hits, 8 ERs, 5 Ks) suffered a tough loss, while Gastineau, Sibert, Rignee DemBeste, and Lemley collected two hits apeice.
Cloverdale dropped its third straight game on April 19 against Pinole Valley, as the Spartans held the Eagles to four hits and no runs in a 6-0 victory.
Edens fired a complete-game, scattering eight hits and five earned runs while fanning one.  Hitting safely for the Eagles were Edens, Turner, Lemley and Hailey Donahoo.
