The Cloverdale High School cross-country team logged a strong performance in a meet against Willits on Sept. 30, with both the varsity boys and girls claiming team wins.
Nick Rilea led the Eagles’ boys squad with a sixth place finish in a field of 17, negotiating the three-mile course in 19:37. Other top finishers for Cloverdale included Juan Guittierez (20:32), Tyler Wanke (20:31), Everett Conway (21:18), Joel Mendoza (21:34) and Juan Flores (21:33). In all, the Eagles placed six runners in the top 13 in the race.
Pacing the victorious varsity girls’ team was Katie Edwards, who took third place in a field of 39, finishing in a fast 21:22. Also finishing strong were teammates Julie Edwards (12th place, 25:00), Sami Santana (13th, 25:12), Christina Cardenas (14th, 25:32), Grisselle Herrera (16th, 25:49) and Eden Winniford (24th, 28:20).
On Friday, Oct. 2, members of the team competed at an Invitational Cross-Country meet held in Angwin. Katie Edwards and Nick Rilea continued to shine for the Eagles, finishing second and 10th in their respective races.
Next up for the Eagles is a meet at Willits on Oct. 7.
