All year long, members of Warm Springs 4-H tend six raised beds and four rows of produce at the Terrace Community Garden, on land adjacent to and provided by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Last week, four 4-H members gathered dozens of fresh lettuces on a chilly morning. “All the food goes to the Healdsburg Shared Ministries Food Pantry,” said Stephanie Keeble, who helps her daughter and friends harvest when produce is ready.
Keeble’s daughter, Ellie Kaye (her dad Rick Kaye also helps out at the garden) said, “We grow kale, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, strawberries …”
The food pantry project involves more than just 4-H. Eagle Scout Henry Dreiling built the raised beds last year, allowing food to be grown all year.
Plots at the community garden are also available to members of the community. For more information about the community garden, call Reola Meadows at 975-1933.
